Lightdm won't log in

Hi all

I installed lightdm and the grk greeter, and after some trouble I finally managed to get it to actually get to the greeter. However when I select the session I want (happens with Openbox, gnome and xfce) i put in my password and then it goes to a black screen and places me back to the log in screen.

What have I done wrong? Do I need to enable something in my lightdm.conf?
