libXt ??

ok well im trying to install gtk so i can install gimp (pretty much hte only meaningful program(besides firefox) that still uses gtk 1.2.x , ), ther config errors out and in teh log its said it dl cant find -lXt , or libXt.a , its the X tool kit libary, and i have no clue were to pick one up, on the cvs at freedesktop.org they have one but both it and the realse verson have the same problem while compileing, like 100+ errors happen then it errors out at ActionHook.c (think thats the name, close enought tho), most of the erros are pasres errors, i dont know how to fix em sence i ahve like no experience with programing much,
does anyone know of a libXt that can compile (note: im using the xlibs and xserver from freedesktop.org's cvs, the server starts up fine (i think?, it givs me a curos and a red screen with some black vertile lines and dots by the lines, it dont giv errors tho (i think))
