libXp.so.6 not found

Dear All,

I am using Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 SE: 2.6.18-8.el5 #1 SMP

On running a CAD software, I get the following message:

Quote:
error while loading shared libraries: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
How can I solve this problem?

First check to see if libXp.so.6 is installed:

find /usr -iname "*libXp.so.6*"

find will tell you if the file exists.

rpm -ql /usr/liblibXp.so.6

will tell you if it has been installed using rpm.

It is part of XFree86-libs-4.1.0-50.i386 package. If not installed try installing from installation CD/DVD or try YUM.

venkarthi, what is your linux distributive? Depending on it there may be variations in package names.

The libXp.so.6 is provided by the libXp package. Have you tried to search it by means of yum?
Code:
yum whatprovides '*/libXp.so.6'
the package name is libXp-1.0.0-8.1.el5.i386.rpm. If you want to manually download, you can easily find it on a CentOS mirror (which is a clone of RHEL), but installing by yum is the best way to do it.

Although this thread is a bit old this simply worked like charm for me on RHEL6 as root:
Code:
yum install libXp.so.6
