libnet and libnids installation difficulties

Hi everyone!

I'm kinda new to linux (I've had some limited experience with it a few years ago but that's it) and am currently having problems installing libnet and libnids.
I'm running Slackware 11 btw.

The first problem is with libnet. When I do configure, it gives me a warning that has something to do with internet.o and stops. I've googled that and found that I oughtta remove the -Werrors from configure. I did and now it configured maked and make installed without problems.

Then I did configure on libnids, and they tell me that I don't have libnet installed. I checked, and it seems to be installed, but libnids still say it's not. Ok, I use the option to install w/o libnet. Everything seems to be going smoothly again.

Then I try to configure another app, and thisone says that I don't have libnids. I've installed and reinstalled Slackware for like 7 times, tried with manual picking of packages, just installing everything since I might've missed something being new, but still. I just can't get past these errors. And the worst part is, I just can't find any useful info online on how to battle these problems.

Am I missing something? Do I have to run a command or some to "register" the new libraries or something? Being used to the Windows world, I'm a bit lost.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ben

P.s. if my problem descriptions are too vague just tell me and I will copy the exact error messages right after I reinstall slack for the 8th time and try it out again :P

here is the libnids error msg:

checking for libnet... Working libnet not found; get it from www.packetfactory.net/projects/libnet and reinstall
configure: error: libnet

but obviously I do have it:
bash-3.1# head /usr/local/include/libnet.h
/*----------------------------------------------------------------
* libnet.h - interface to libnet library
*----------------------------------------------------------------
* libnet is (c) Copyright Chad Catlett and George Foot 1997-2001
*
* Please look in `docs' for details, documentation and
* distribution conditions.

Problem solved I found a mirror of packetfactory and dled their version of libnet. Turns out that I was using some 0.xxxx version instead of 1.xxxxxxx. Well, anyway, works now.
