lfs on the asus eee (900 for me)

can an lfs system on here be built with a plain vanilla kernel? or will I need to download special kernels from random sites for the asus eee? i know there's a weird sound problem, and that does require some download. like a driver maybe? how do you install 3rd party drivers from scratch?
