after a update the User VMWARE Server Console will not start.
It looks then, as if the other service run correctly. $ uname -r 2.6.22-3-amd64 $ dmesg: Linux version 2.6.22-3-amd64 (Debian 2.6.22-6.lenny1) (sf@debian.org) (gcc version 4.1.3 20071209 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.2-18)) #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 09:22:35 UTC 2008 ..... Code:

yes. I have run the command vmware-config.pl script very often. The script is ended without any error. But the console is not start. Should I try to start the console under the root-login? |
restart the system,
try to start the console by typing the command in a terminal, see what output you receive |

can you see what is wrong here in this output? Code:
$ vmware |
I am having the same issue with vmware server 1.0.6 on Debian Lenny.
Running $ uname -a Linux judas 2.6.25-2-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Jul 14 11:05:23 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux The issue occurs no matter what VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK is set to (no, force and yes all fail). I have ia32-libs-gtk installed so it should be able to run on those. In many 64 bit distributions Vmware seems to have problems using the 64bit gtk libs that are supplied. |
Tried a few more things with no results still.
Code:
sed -i -e 's:usr/lib/:usr/l32/:g' /usr/lib32/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1200.10 Will keep you guys posted if I manage to fix it. |
Those commands posted in my last post actually correct the issue. I didn't notice this until I had run vmware-config.pl and recompiled the module over again.

It is due to a bug in the current version of the library libX11-6, that is 2:1.1.4-2,as you can check in this link: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=486507
Downgrading to the version 2:1.0.3-7, you can find it here: http://packages.debian.org/etch/libx11-6, is supposed to fix the problem. It worked out fine with some, with me it didn't though. |
my experience with vmware on lenny x64
In my case i am pretty sure the only thing missing was to install:
Code:
aptitude install ia32-libs-gtk Code:
cp /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/ Code:
apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r` libx11-6 libx11-dev x-window-system-core x-window-system xspecs libxtst6 psmisc build-essential ia32-libs-gtk ia32-libs regards Brian Simonsen |
