Lecture/Voice recording software for linux?

HEY GUYS! I DID IT! I'm running dual boot on my DELL Latitude D600!!!! THIS IS GREAT!

Two final step still remain before I can trash windows completely:

1.) I need to get my wiresless card working (I found a solution I just need to try it)
2.) I VERY BADLY NEED LECTURE RECORDING SOFTARE

I'm in medical school and record all of my lectures every day. The current program I use in windows I had to buy called SONICLEAR and it lets me record unlimited minutes (dependent on HD size) and then lets me convert the just recorded WAV into an MP3...

Does anyone have or know of a program like that for linux that I could record lectures with?

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP AND ENCOURAGEMENT!

P.S. I chose Red Hat, I liked Knoppix a lot but RED HAT looked easilest to install
