laptop with 17" monitor


well I finish installing linux on my friend laptop, hear the think hers laptop lcd isn't working right so I attach a 17 inch monitor so now I can see clearly at the end it suppose to start gdm but didn't error came the xorg it not right, something like that

her laptop is dell inspiron 2600 (ubuntu 5.10)
anyhelp would be helpful

Can you paste the xorg error? Maybe the xorg conf too? I'm not using ubuntu but I have FC4 running on my laptop (Latitude D600) in a docking station with two 17" Dell Ultrasharps (one rotated 90). X starts great. It would be helpful to see the errors and your current config.
