LAN mail and ISP's
 

I just read this thread and I got intrigued. I have a LAN at home composed of 5 computers, 2 windows: Dad's, mom's, 3 linux: my own, my wife's and the little router, file, print server. Now my question is this, can I actually have my local "domain" (Workgroup for file sharing actually) to be identified as a domain which might recieve e-mail from the ISP and then "enroute" through the server to the clients on the network?

For instance, suppose the server named coal recieves e-mail from the pop3 accounts from the ISP, then this coal server routes the messages to the corresponding computer whether it be oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen or phosphorus. And all these computers are in the "domain" chemist.org, so the incomming e-mail from the ISP would get spam filtered in the server prior to be sent to the clients at, for instance oxygen@chemist.org

Is that possible?

i'm looking to do something similar, if anyone has insight:

a small buisiness i maintain the network for has about 15 employees with email accounts. the problem is that we have 10 computers that everyone uses. is there a way (relatively easy, they have little IT help, ie. me) to pull the employees email off the pop3 server (no imap available), then re-serve the emails instore with imap?
i'm not too familiar with email protocall, so this might not even make sense.
