Lan DNS

I'm interested in setting up dns for my lan so that if a roommate types in something like http://ourhouse.lan/ they would get the webserver on one of my systems. I have no idea where to start though (something with bind?), can anyone recommend a good starting point / tutorial site for things like this?

ps: should this go in the networking section instead? I couldn't decide =/
