Lame: Unsupported data format: 0x0003

I'm trying to convert a bunch of wav and wma file to a bitrate of 16kbps or less so that they can be used with @#$%%^& wmplayer on a Windoze Mobile 6 phone. I already ran them through soundconverter to set the sampling rate, but it won't do bitrates. :(

On files which show a numeric bitrate in nautilus->properties->audio, lame works fine. But if the bitrate shows as N/A, I get an error of:

Quote:

Unsupported data format: 0x0003
I don't insist on using lame, but how can I batch convert files to a specific bitrate?

Thanks.

sox is an audio converter that supports a lot of different formats and it'll let you set bit rate, sample frequency and channels
