Lacie's Lightscribe doesn't recognize my DVD-Recorder

Hello, i have here a problem with the Lacie-Lightscribe Software and my LG GSA-H22L Dvd-Recorder.

Installation runs with no problems, for the two rpm-packages i've to use alien on my machine. But after starting the GUI, selecting an image and pressing the "Print" Button i get following message: No drives have been detected.

Running the pogram as root, reinstalling it with different alien otions or trying it with mounted/unmounted DVDRecorder brought no solution.

There is also a terminal program included to print Lightscribe CDs.
So the command "4L-cli enumerate" should show all usable Lightscribe devices, an example i found at google:

Quote:
$ 4L-cli enumerate
Drive path: /dev/hdd
Usable: 1
Full name: HL-DT-ST - DVD-RAM GSA-H20L - 1.00
Model: DVD-RAM GSA-H20L
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Capabilities: monochrome
Drive inner radius: 21000
Drive outer radius: 58700
And this is what i get:
Quote:
$ 4L-cli enumerate
Using /etc/lightscribe.rc
Segmentation fault
So is there anyone who got Lacie's Lightscribe already running, or has the same problem?

Ubuntu 6.10
Kernel: 2.6.17 386
Athlon XP 2000
768 MB Ram
80 Gb WD
Nvidia 6200
LG GSA-H22L

I get the same problem. I've heard it may be caused by incorrect jumper settings on the drives. Currently, I have both my optical drives set on cable select, so I will try setting them to a master/slave combination, to see if that works.

EDIT: Ok, it did not solve the problem(but it did improve my bootup speed!).

I'm troubleshooting the same problem, without much luck. I've heard reports that 4L works correctly in Ubuntu Dapper, but not in Edgy, which leads me to believe that it may be related to a particular kernel version. Would anyone who does or does not have this working care to share their uname -a output? Mine is:

Linux gilliam 2.6.17.11 #1 PREEMPT Fri Sep 1 23:40:54 EDT 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

Still watching this topic.

Here's my uname -a:

Linux falcon-2 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Fri Oct 13 18:45:35 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

(Latest official Ubuntu kernel)

I tried it again last night on Gentoo on a custom 2.6.10 kernel on the same machine. I experienced the same problem:
Linux (none) 2.6.10lvm #11 Sun May 7 23:08:59 EDT 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

I then tried it on Kubuntu 6.06 Dapper Drake, using kernel 2.6.15, on the same machine, and it worked perfectly

It appears to be a kernel related problem, and is clearly not a hardware problem. I'm curious about 2.6.18, and will try it when I get a chance.

I'm glad the problem isn't my new burner (it's a LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165H6S)

No luck with my 2.6.18 kernel, either.

Linux gilliam 2.6.18.3 #1 PREEMPT Wed Nov 22 22:39:59 EST 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

The stock Dapper kernel:
Linux ubuntu 2.6.15-23-386 #1 PREEMPT Tue May 32 13:49:40 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

Ok so something happened that killed lightscribe after 2.6.15. I wonder what the first kernel version was that broke lightscribe support?

I'm still curious why it didn't work in my 2.6.10 kernel. I'm going to have to spend some time tinkering with IDE/ATA options.
