KWord crashed ...

I have Slackware 9.1 system and I encountered a problem in KWord. If I try to open a .doc file I receive this error:

Code:
The application KWord (kword) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).
but if I open the same .doc file with AbiWord all is OK.
Could someone help me fix this problem?

Thanks!

Does kword open up any other documents or any other .doc 's ? Have you tried to save that document in another format to see if kword can open it up? .doc are closed type formats, developers in the Linux world have to guess when developing their apps to open these up, etc.

If kword opens up other .docs and not this one, could just be some format in the file its trying to read that's crashing kword. Abiword might be opening it as it might just ignore such things, not totally for sure as we don't have the file to test it with and were not the developers of such software.

If abiword works, why not use it instead? I prefer it myself over kword.

Does kword crash on all .doc files or just a specific one?

Most likely its a problem with kword then. Have you tried updating or checking the docs? Its been so long since I've actually used kword, does it even support .docs?
