I briefly installed KWord to examine it as an alternative to Libreoffice, and noticed that I seem to be required to install Kspread, the KOffice spreadsheet component. Why do I have to install a spreadsheet to install the word processor of its suite?
It could be that some core component is in the spreadsheet component, but it's more likely that your distro has just made a mistake in the repository. These things do happen!
Only to do things manually. See what the program is listed as needing, install the bits that you think it really needs, download the program, and then install it from the file with dependency checking turned off.
