i just installed Kubuntu 6.06 over my existing Ubuntu 6.06 install. I downloaded a KDM manager http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=22120 and downloaded a KDM theme that i wanted to use.

i ran the KDM manager and installed the downloaded theme, but when the login screen comes up, it still shows the default Ubuntu 6.06 login screen.

any ideas here?

In the X config file, change DESKTOPMANAGER=GDM to DESKTOPMANAGER=KDM. I'll reply with the filename of the file ASAP.

Okay, I believe it's in /etc/X11/default-display-manager. Change /usr/bin/gdm to /usr/bin/kdm.

i probably should have searched the forum for the answer before posting this because i found the solution in another post.

in the directory /etc/X11/ you have to edit the "default-display-manager" so that it lists the directory that KDM is in. by default, mine was set to GDM so the path looked like "/usr/sbin/gdm" well i looked around with krusader and found KDM in the "/usr/bin/kdm".

why they're in different directories, i haven't a clue, im relatively new to linux as it is. this did, however, solve my problem and now the sexy login screen i installed shows up
