ktorrent through guarddog

I've never used a bittorrent client before but lately I've been playing around with Ktorrent but I don't know how to make it work through guarddog firewall.
If I disable guarddog then files start downloading (albeit very slowly) so I know that is the cause.
With guarddog running all files are just stalled and won't even start.
The are protocols in guarddog for bittorrent peer and bittorent tracker. I've tried allowing both, local and remote but still nothing downloads.

Open up Ports 8661 and UDP port 4444. I'm assuming the 8661 is TCP, but it might be both TCP/UDP.
These are the ports that are listed in the KTorrent preferences. If your access is through a NAT router, you will probably want to forward these ports to the computer that is running Ktorrent.

I use the same setup, and it works fine, do you have a router? as you also need to redirect the torrent port in your router to your machine, as NAT won't let stuff through.

On Guarddog you need tracker on the internet, and Peer on the local.

Thanks all, it's working now. Incidentally, if anyone else has this problem it's port 6881 not 8661, or that's what my ktorrent prefs say anyway.

Actually no, it's still not right.
Basically if I add a torrent to Ktorrent while guarddog is runnning it never starts downloading.
If I disable guarddog and then add a torrent it starts downloading then if I restart guarddog it continues downloading
til it finishes, though it does slow down a bit.
So I don't understand that at all.
I've tried installing Azureus and it downloads ok with guarddog running, using the same port as ktorrent so it seems to be a problem with ktorrent.

Gee, I have the same problem. Ktorrent won't budge

A couple of years late but at least this will help other troubled souls out there...

In order to get ktorrent to work with guarddog i did the following:

(1) In the Advanced tab I added to protocols
ktorrent TCP 45600
ktorrent UDP 70000 - 70001 (it seems ktorrents can use two different UDP ports)

(2) In the Protocol tab i enabled the following protocols for both the Internet and Local zones:

- File transfer
- BitTorrent Peer
- BitTorrent Tracker

- User Defined (the two protocols I created in step 1 are listed here)
- ktorrent
- ktorrent

Not sure if I allowed more protocols than I should have but it got ktorrent working. Both my upload/download and DHT were working fine.
