KPPP work with Netzero?

I am running Freespire on my boss's computer, and he has Netzero dial-up. The Netzero program is included in with Freespire, but when I try and use the access numbers, the modem doesn't even emit the dial-up sound. However, when I use KPPP, it dials and connects-but only to a webpage under Netzero's website. The "customer service" jerks are trying to tell me Freespire and Linspire programs are not compatible, and therefore my preinstalled Netzero program won't work. How can I get it working through KPPP?

OK, now I have some new info-this is what I get when I ping yahoo.com when connectin via KPPP:

Can I use a proxy to bypass the blocker? My boss has been paying for internet he hasn't had for a month and a half.

You've talked to Net0, did you try Linspire also? Any luck? Could they at least tell you if that you'd get support if you(r boss) used the paid ver. of the distro?

Did Freespire come on the machine?

As to the proxy, why not just try it? It will either work or it won't.

Sorry I can't offer any better help, but I haven't used dial-up or an idiot run ISP for years.

That leads to another thought: how long is the Net0 contract for? If there were an alternative, could it be cancelled for failing to work?

got netzero working on slack12 by downloading netzero.deb from netzero web site.
converting it to a slack package with alien. logged in as root. installed the created netzero.tgz package.
ran setup off my install cd to set a link between ttyS0/com1 where my modem is attached to and /dev/modem. under root ran pppsetup and for modem choose /dev/modem. installing netzero puts an icon on the desktop of root. clicked on icon logged into netzero.
logged out of root, logged out root, logged in as user.
