KPackage requires root's password???

For some reason, whenever I try to install a program in KPackage, it asks me for root's password. I don't know it, and I do know that you rarely need roots password in Kubuntu. Adept works fine, it just asks me for my password to run as root. But I like KPackage because it allows me to install programs I download like .tar.gz and .deb packages having to use ths command line. How can I install programs?

Thanks
BigFoot

Never used Kubuntu but maybe you need to put the command sudo infront of the kpackage command.

Ubuntu chooses (for whatever reason) not to enable the root user by default. To re-enable root, simply drop to a console, type sudo and when it asks for a password, enter your *regular user password*, then when you're logged in type passwd and enter whatever password you want for root. Voila. Root is now enabled.

Thanks. I modified the entry in the menu from "kpackage" to "kdesu kpackage". That worked. Now it asks for my password at start like adept. But whenever I try to install anything, I get this mesasage:

WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
[The name of the package is here]
E: There are problems and -y was used without DEBIAN_FRONTEND=readline; export DEBIA--force-yes
RESULT=100

It does this for all packages.

Fixed it! Open the Konsloe and do this:
Code:
sudo apt-get install debian-archive-keyring
Answer yes, then do:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
That should complete it.
When installing, check "Allow Unathuenticated" and "Assume Yes".
Thanks for all the help guys.
