korganizer and kaddressbook-backup?

Hi I want to be able to open the data I have stored in both programs and take them over to another computer. What directory would I have to copy or the contents of?
Also I installed both programs on my Ubuntustudio system but canīt find them in the menu anywhere. I vagualy remember that there is a way to view/edit entries that I hidden in the menu but I can remember what I have to click.

For kaddressbook it's /home/<username>/.kde/share/apps/kabc and for korganizer it's /home/<username>/.kde/share/apps/korganizer.

I canīt find either of those directories. I get to home/<username>/ ...canīt find the kde folder anywhere.

The "." in front of "kde" means it is a hidden file. To see this directory, open konqueror and go to the View menu and tick the "Show Hidden Files" entry.

Ok viewing now thanks!
I should have explained that the other OS is Ubuntustudio and I am trying to find where the directory is to copy the backups to. Can you tell me what it would be. Ubuntustudio is gnome....not that I know really what all that means yet. I just understand that the file system is different and I have not mastered any linux yet to know.
I figured out a way to open kaddressbook and korganizer in ubuntu btw by using the terminal so I know they are installed and working.
So what file exactly am I using as a backup for both programs? Is it std.ics for korganiser? I canīt seem to sort out which file for kaddressbook.
Actually I can find the korganizer directory on the debian drive.

If you are using gnome, your default file manager is an application called nautilus. I'm not that familiar with it since I'm a kde guy but apparently you figured out how to make hidden files visible in nautilus. I assumed since you were asking about two kde applications, you were using kde. However, even if you are running kde applications in a gnome environment, you will have a .kde directory in your home directory and that's where all the configuration files for any kde applications reside for the most part.

As to which files to use to accomplish the transfer of your kaddressbook data to another computer running those apps, here's the general procedure:
1. Copy the entire kabc directory on the box that has your address book data to a flash drive;
2. Go to your new box that will receive the transfer and rename that kabc directory old.kabc;
3. Take your flash drive to the new box and copy and paste the kabc directory in /home/<username>/.kde/share/apps/

The next time you open kaddressbook, you should see all your old data there. There isn't just a single file in kabc that you need to transfer. For instance, every address book entry creates its own std.vcf_<number> file. It's just easier to copy the entire kabc directory over.

I don't use korganizer but the procedure should be pretty much the same; you copy over the entire directory. I always rename the old directory for safety so I can go back to my previous configuration if something gets screwed up in the transfer but you could just as easily overwrite the entire directory if you want.

Where I am copying the file from or directory is kde and where I am taking the directory to is gnome. Because I was used to using a kde addressbook and organizer plus that the data is there already I thought that installing those apps again on the new system would make it easier. At the moment I can't seem to find the directory in gnome though. Will search again when I get out of the job i am doing in windoze.
Oh and yes I got the whole kabc directory to copy over. Unfortunately the usb flash thing is not working. I dunno why but many things have been going wrong on the kde(debian) machine so a new install is the best idea. Anyway the burner works so that is how I am backing up everything.
Ok will try with korganizer too.
Thanks!

Yippee it worked. I copied the directories as instructed and found after clicking everywhere that you just right click the 'main menu' and there lies the option to show whatever programs you want to show or not. Then when I opened korganizer or kaddressbook I just imported the directory that I copied onto the hard drive for both these programs. Very nice! Thanks problem solved.
