Konqueror won't display webpages
I have a strange problem on konqueror - instead of rendering webpages it instead offers a dialog box asking whether to download the html file or to open it with nvu. Huh? How do I tell konqueror to render webpages? Actually it will load some webpages seemingly if you do not mention the name of a specific html file. For example the URL http://mandrivausers.org does load.
I have Mandriva2006 running konqueror 3.4.2 installed on 3 machines. Only one has this problem. I can only guess that there some peculiar setting on this one machine which is screwing up konqueror. I'm sure someone will quickly tell me to just use Firefox. Well, I do mostly, but konqueror does have some nice features like the ability to display man pages (except in my case, where it want to download the html file). |
IIRC, you have to to have konqueror handle html files by default.
Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> File Associations -> Text -> HTML -> Application Preference Order (Put Konqueror on top) That should do the trick. |
Thanks for the tip. I now realize that I inflicted this on myself because at one point I configured "nvu" as the default application for html files, because I wanted nvu to open html files when I clicked on them when using konq as a file browser. I did not realize that this would also cause konq to want to use nvu for html files viewer by konq as a web browser. This seems like a case where the combined functionality of konq as both web and file browser causes a problem.

I don't know what NVU is, but for the most part in KDE, I set the app I use the most on a file to open it, and just right click -> Open With every other time.
