Konqueror use as a browser

So I installed KDE 3.2 on my SuSE 9 Pro box. In the process I decided to give KDE a try as my preferred desktop environment. This meant using KDE software and I must say that KDE's Konqueror, at least in 3.2, really comes through as a browser.

A more detailed write-up is over here in an Ars Technica article so maybe someone that hasn't decided to try it out will do so.

Previously I used gnome so the switch to KDE was a hard decision. Originally the switch was going to be for a short period of time; just a kick the tires sort of thing. But after using it for a few weeks it became apparent that this was the desktop I need to spend more time with. This desktop environment is a point and click joy, from installing themes, fonts or even a new and improved splash screen.

Thumbs up to the KDE crew and all those that have helped them.

The nice thing about Linux is that you can have BOTH KDE and Gnome running, even in the same user account (though not exactly at the same time, not hot-switchable anyway).

The Ars article you linked to is truly outstanding. For people coming from a Windows development background, it's helpful to note that KParts is equivalent to OLE and and DCOP is everything DDE could have been had MS continued to enhance it.

Note that it is actually possible to run applications from both simulatneously on the same virtual desktop, although it is necessary to choose one that you are running underneath as a WM / DE
