Konqueror / KDE Crash Handler: Signal 11

I'm running SuSE 9.1 professional, using the default browser Konqueror as my web browser. I am frequently running into an error message dialog box that pops up on about every web page I visit. Its a very nagging problem, so I'd appreciate any help or guidance.

The error message that pops up is:

unknown - KDE Crash Handler

Short Description: The application unknown (nspluginviewer) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).

What is This? An application mostly receives the SIGSEGV signal due to a bug in the application. This application was asked to save its documents.

The Backtrace information is as follows:

(no debugging symbols found)...Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1".

Hi

I am an absolute novice at Linux and am a simple home user.

However, have you tried using Mozilla instead? If you have SuSE Linux 9,1 then you will have it on your CDs. Just go to YaST - install, and type in Mozilla. Things come up pre-ticked. Keep them but make sure you have the normal Mozilla browser. If not, tick it (and its email part if you want that too).

Alternatively you can probably get the latest online by browsing at mozilla.org.

I am told not only the latest main Mozilla browser update but also Mozilla Firefox is good - the latter with advanced pop-up suppression.

Hope that helps. Imagine if I could actually help someone!

My problem is getting my printer to print from OOo or my browser (see my thread). : (

Good luck

yes, i've tried the latest edition of FireFox. for some reason it will choose a random time to simultaneously close all of its open windows. this makes it more unreliable/intolerable than the error popups with konqueror.

Hi

Intolerable, agreed.

However, in case you haven't already done so, what happens when you are in Mozilla/Firefox and you go into Edit - Preferences - Navigator - Helper Applications, and untick the Plug-in Finder service?

Best of luck!

re: unticking the Plug-In Finder service:

That menu option is available under Mozilla, but not under Firefox. It has always been unchecked in Mozilla. checking it doesn't have any effect - the Mozilla windows close themselves, just like the FireFox windows.

thanks for the idea.
