not that i know of. for kde, there looks to be 5 different placements available. you can find these by:
1. open a shell and type command kcontrol.
2. on the left frame, navigate Desktop > Window Behavior
3. on the right frame, click the Moving tab
4. look for the Placement option (this is the drop down list).
the default placement is smart, so when you open your very first program in a session, it will place the program on the top left corner. all other programs will then be opened to an area of the desktop with the most open space.
the window placement options are:
1. Smart
2. Cascade
3. Random
4. Centered
5. Zero-Cornered
Locating these options maybe different for your version of kde as i'm running kde 3.1.1. also, depending on your version of kde, you may have more control over window placement of applications.
