Power outage may be the culprit.
fsck runs clean and everything else does too. All except Konqueror when in "file management" mode - it just hangs.
In fact, I can start it in "web browsing" mode and it works fine. But, as soon as I place a slash in the command bar, it hangs.
Like I said, the filesystem seems to be fine. Something must've gotten hung up at the power outage.
Try either making a new user (run konqueror) or log out as a you, log in (console or X) as root, move your /home/username/.kde directory to .kde_old, log out as root, and log back in is user. You will blow away all your desktop settings, but then at least you can confirm it is just an error within your local.
I did that and the result was that I see now that there is a problem when trying to access "/" in konqueror. I can view other directories, but when type / (I just need to type it, not even press return) konqueror freezes.
Bump.
Anyone have ANY idea what I can do. The problem seems very konqueror-centric since I the commandline works fine at "/"
What does Konqueror do when a "/" is entered onto the command bar (and I mean just "entered", I don't have to even press return and it freezes.)
Maybe this could help a KDE expert find my problem:
If I go to kcontrol>>Panels as a normal user, the option window to the right is blank -- i.e. I can't change any options.
If I go to the Panels option as root, I have the full options to set.
This seems to me to be a permissions problem or a file missing somewhere for the normal user. Since I have already created a new ~/.kde directory, this may not be the culprit.
