Unhappy KOffice Formulas....Missing Symbol Font??

I recently installed the latest KOffice via emerge. Every works just fine expect the equation editors. When I attempt to insert a symbol (the summing sign, sigma, for example) I get various other charactors that are not my intended goal. This makes me think that I do not have a font installed, or that KFormula, KWord, etc are pointing to incorrect font libraries. Being an engineering student, this is quite debilitating!

Anyone have any ideas??

Sorry for the terse post, am in hurry....
Bob
