Kmail welcome mail

I've Mandriva 2006 official with KDE 3.4.2 installed on my computer
There is a little problem with Kmail. Every time it starts (or when I start the computer) there is the welcome mail (the one sent by welcome@mandriva.com) in my inbox. This mail should only be sent the very first time one opens the Kmail, not every time. It's really annoying. How can I get rid of it? Or can I at least set up a filter so I would stop getting it in my inbox and how?

First, select the email address you want to filter.
Then, click on Message--> Create New Filter--> Filter on From.

The rest is pretty self-explanitory. Post again if you can't get it.

Odd. I have two questions for you:
1. Have you tried deleting the email?
2. Have you been off to get the Mandriva updates? (Please search this site for "easy urpmi" for how to do this).

HTH, & welcome to LQ!

I don't know about filters, but I had the same 'problem' with Kmail ... also Kmail would 'crash', or shall I say, close completely from the Kicker. Everytime I reopend, there would be another email.

I had a friend try also and he had the same 'problem' but his preference was to use another emailer anyway.

Mandriva was not very stable on my system ... I now use Suse 10

To answer all of the above:
1) I've tried to set this filter but does not work. evrytime I open Kmail this bloody mail is in my inbox.
2) I delete this email every time. if I don't I get a second copy of it the next time i open Kmail.
3) My system is as updated as I can make it. With a little help of easy urpmi.

I've also tried to uninstall and reinstall. It doesn't help. This thing really annoys me.
Is there any other email client that would sit in my tray and retrieve my mail automaticaly. I couldn't make evolution to do that (couldn't get it to tray). What about Thunderbird?

Red face ... flipping heck

Well ... and you will not believe me ... but I just got a crash note about Kmail ... and Kmail just closed on me.

After 7 days & 20 hours ... must be time for a Kmail coffee break.

Sorry, I do not have the knowledge to help you ... but it seems Kmail has a wee problem, more so in Mandriva than Suse.

I've just discovered where theese mails come from : /usr/share/mdk/mail !!!!

The files are in html and text, generated by "indexhtml" package. I tried to rename the french files (as I am in France), and at next start Kmail generated english welcome mail as default. I then also renamed english files, and that's a solution ! No more welcome mails !!!!!

Another solution (after looking Mandriva patches on kdepim source package of Mandriva):

- create /etc/sysconfig/oem file

When /etc/sysconfig/oem file exists, "Welcome Mandriva" message is not created.

So, under su, make

Code:
touch /etc/sysconfig/oem
