Kmail hangs while downloading mail, help please

Hi

I recently changed to Linux and have been ussing kmail ever since, , but as I got more mail in the system kmail began to load mail slower and now it hangs when downloading mail.
it only downloads well if a couple of mails are to be downloaded

I know it is not a server thing since it works with other clients

has anyone experienced such a thing,??

any clue ?

by the way I am ussing Suse 9.2 and KDE, Kernel 2.6.8.24
