kmail - emails missing

I have been using Kmail in Kontact trouble-free for a number of months. Just yesterday I was horrified to discover a full subfolder of my mail, even though the mails appeared in list, I was not able to read their content. My kmail mails are all stored on external HDD which i can bring to different stations to check my incoming emails.

I tried a few tricks like fsck the external HDD but still not avail. The only workaround is to create another subfolder and copy the mails over one at a time. If I were to select all of them and copy in one go, a message will show "IMAP cache corrupt". The problem is I'm not even configured my server to be IMAP at all. All my emails are pulled from my ISP POP3 server and kept on my external HDD.

Can someone with prior experience or savvy enough to give me a pointer.

TIA

Wilson

Try this:
Close kmail
Navigate to /home/username/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail
Enable "Show hidden files"
Find these three files, and delete them:
.CorruptedMailboxName.index.sorted
.CorruptedMailboxName.index.ids
.CorruptedMailboxName.index

Restart kmail, the indexes will be rebuilt (this may take some time if the mailbox is large)
See if the problem is solved
