Kmail back up

Hello

I'm using KDE 3.0 and Kmail as base mail application. Now, I want to reinstall the system, there is a way to back up the emails that are in KMAIL I looked in the KMAIL manual can't find anything. Any advice will be apreciated.

P.S I found that kmail "SENT" messages store on /var/spool/mail directory

Thanks

Kmail backup

There should be a directory Mail in your user directory that contains all your Kmail folders as directories.
Copy the whole directory to back it up.

BUT, be careful. I did a back up of mine with Konqueror and screwed something up. It's a long road to reconstruct the directory relationships if you do that. Now I use mc to do the back up.

Kmail locations

OK, look in your Kmail folders for a folder with a unique name like genealogy.
Got to a terminal window and do a locate for that name.
It should show you the path/location of that file/directory.

Example:

1032278425.5102.uiQN:2,S 1032964116.1607.40PY:2,S

Is it ok?

Also each directory or folder containt these 3 subdirectories: cur new tmp

Kmail backup

Ah, no.
Should be seeing something like these:
Note, that most are hidden directories.

file:/home/neal/Mail/.companies.directory
file:/home/neal/Mail/.computer.directory
file:/home/neal/Mail/.Cousins.directory
file:/home/neal/Mail/.family.directory
file:/home/neal/Mail/.friends.directory
file:/home/neal/Mail/.genealogy.directory
file:/home/neal/Mail/.locations.directory
file:/home/neal/Mail/.Net links.directory

file:/home/neal/Mail/.Tax Act.index.sorted
file:/home/neal/Mail/.Tax ACt.mbx.index.sorted
file:/home/neal/Mail/.Todd.index.sorted
file:/home/neal/Mail/.Todd.mbx.index.sorted
file:/home/neal/Mail/.Torrie.index.sorted
file:/home/neal/Mail/.Torrie.mbx.index.sorted
file:/home/neal/Mail/.trash.index
file:/home/neal/Mail/.UsGennet.index.sorted
file:/home/neal/Mail/.WAGs.index.sorted
file:/home/neal/Mail/.xRootsweb.mbx.index.sorted

Files above here are index files and those below are where the actual emails are stored.

file:/home/neal/Mail/companies
file:/home/neal/Mail/computer
file:/home/neal/Mail/Cousins
file:/home/neal/Mail/drafts
file:/home/neal/Mail/family
file:/home/neal/Mail/friends
file:/home/neal/Mail/genealogy
file:/home/neal/Mail/inbox
file:/home/neal/Mail/locations
file:/home/neal/Mail/Misc. info
file:/home/neal/Mail/Net links
file:/home/neal/Mail/outbox
file:/home/neal/Mail/Rootsweb
file:/home/neal/Mail/sent-mail
file:/home/neal/Mail/spam
file:/home/neal/Mail/trash

Hope this helps.
