Kino not installed fully?

Hi I don't know why but I installed Kino and the first GUI that shows when you click to open it is not showing properly. Part of the image is there but it is missing most of it and it doesn't progress to a usable program. I went into the package manager and reinstalled but am still having this problem. I even click 'fix broken packages' and no improvement. I installed it on Debian 4.

Start it in a terminal window, see if it prints error messages.

Yep

Here is what the terminal came back with:
carla@carla:~$ kino

(kino:3521): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.

And a windows popped up with the heading of: Warning-Kwin
Window with title "Untitled - Kino" is not responding. This window belongs to application kino (PID=3521, hostname=localhost).
Do you wish to terminate this application? (All unsaved data in this application will be lost.)

I am afraid I am not experienced enough to know what all that means.

How did you install Kino? Did you get it from Debian repository? (There seems to be GTK version mismatch of some sort.)

Via Package manager

Just via the package manager. I didn't put anything in the repositories for it. i am still too inexperienced to know I am doing with the repositories. Should I post the repositories and can you tell me how to find the file because I have only done that 3 times maybe. can't remember how to find it apart from what I can read in the package manager(synaptic).

Hm. Installing via package manager is the best way to do it of course because all dependencies should be resolved automatically. Have you updated your installation? If you haven't do it now.

Please uninstall all of your kino plugin packages. For Debian stable, they are kino-dvtitler, kino-timfx, and kinoplus. I know kinoplus is generating all those GNOME errors; it is very old and unmaintained. Also, try removing your ~/.kinorc saved preferences file.

Also, how did you get the following plugins? I could not locate them in the Debian stable repository.

>>> Registering plugin /usr/lib/kino-gtk2/libcrtbrtplugin.so
>>> Registering plugin /usr/lib/kino-gtk2/libhsvplugin.so

If you can't find the package responsible for them; please move those files directly, at least temporarily. If you get Kino to start without them; then you can move them back into that directory and see if still works.

OK

I found in the package manager the plugins were:kino-hsv-color-space-plugin , kinoplus and kino-brightness-contrast-plugin. The package manager didn't find kino-dvtitler or kino-timfx.....it just showed Kino.

Kino is still not opening properly.
Oh sorry where do I find ~/.kinorc ? I am afraid I don't know what all the directories mean yet.
I don't know how I got anything really. Whatever I did I did via the package manager and I have no idea what those files are. Thanks RA

.kinorc I see is a file in your /home/carla folder ( you may need to tell your file manager to show hidden files to see it ). Did you uninstall the plugins you did find? If so than I'd try using synaptic to completely remove kino & then reinstall only it.

I have the same problem

OK, I removed Kino plus on my system too and all the errors disappeared. Great! BUT I was trying to investigate why the kino plus filter I needed wasn't working when I noticed that I too had this error. Is there any way I can get a working version of kino plus for Etch without haveing to break out my compiler and delve into the source?..

Recompiling doesn't help

I just had a try at recompiling kino plus from source (considering these days my programming doesn't go much beyond 100 lines of python, can I just say "phew!!!") and that doesn't help in the slightest. It seems to me that kinoplus is dead! Can someone please contradict me... I need that "Effect TV" plugin.

Not happening

OK well I better get rid of Kino too as there is no way to get it working by the looks of things.
