Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I recently decided that I would try to install Kiba Dock on Mepis. I already have Beryl running nicely, and now I would like to get Kiba Dock running. Unfortunately I ran into dependency hell quickly; however, I found that I was able to fight my way through it. The problem is that I have hit a dead end. One dependency of something is libfontconfig1, which, in turn, depends on fontconfig-config. The problem is that the system will not allow me to install fontconfig-config because it would have to remove fontconfig first. There are quite a lot of programs depending on fontconfig, and Mepis will not allow me to replace fontconfig. I tried removing fontconfig with synaptic, but it would not allow me to remove it without fixing broken packages. libfontconfig1 is the broken package, and I can't fix it without removing fontconfig. Even if there is a way to remove fontconfig, I'll lose most of my software. Isn't there a solution that allows me to use Kiba Dock without removing half my software.
Any feedback would be great. Thanks
