Im rather new to Linux and am having a pretty easy time thus far. I am using Mandrake 10.0 after having some gripes about the speed of SuSE on my system. Mandrake is working nicely except for this problem with kfind that is kinda an important one that i need to fix. When i use kfind for a file search the window freezes as soon as i click Find or hit Enter. Being new and not knowing where things are i need to use this program. I have a few things i have installed that didnt automaticly put links in my KDE menu, so without kfind i cant find the directory with the program links.
I searched the packages i could install off the CDs but nothing comes up for kfind. Please let me know what i need to do to get this working.
haha. i was just about to ask. "what am i suppost to do with this?"
thanks for the edit.
edit----
is it this one? kdelibs-3.1-disable-selectall-in-kfind.patch
if it is does it mean that i should do this? do i need to copy this patch to somewhere on my system first? or just simply open the shell and type this?
Code:
cd /usr/src/kdelibs-3.1rc5/kdeui/keditcl2.cpp
patch -p0 < kdelibs-3.1-disable-selectall-in-kfind.patch
sorry. i have done almost nothing in the shell before. unix is completly new to me.
You need to copy the source to /usr/src first, according to the documentation, and make sure that your kernel source is also there. I have never patched a kernel before either. There is additional documentation on LinuxQuestion to help you compile a kernel. I also don't know if that is the patch you need to fix Kfind. You might want to google and make sure, might be an easier way to fix it, like an rpm. The cd command takes you to the directory that you specify. (/usr/src) You can also use the whereis command to find files and directories on your computer. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
