Keys not working properly in Flash

I have set up an Ubuntu Hoary computer for a friend of mine, along with all the necessary multimedia plugins. She says that in firefox when watching a flash movie or playing a flash game, the arrow keys do not work, and never have. Also, the spacebar usually doesn't work, but it seemingly 'randomly' does work, and flash is jerky. Any ideas on what could be going on?
