keymap problem


hello
i have a debian woody that i upgraded to sarge .
the problem is i m not able to use the "Graved keys" ( keys that needs AltGR to be print ) when use AltGr+Key i get ((arg: -1)) instead Pipe !
what should i do to fix this please , i have a french keymap as default with a french local too
