Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

i have a little problem here.
I have loaded the keymap sv-latin1.map.gz (swedish) on my new SuSE 9.1 install. The thing is that the keymap works great with the swedish characters when typing directly at the console. but when connecting to the box via SSH the swedish characters don't work very well at all. either the charaters don't display at all or they appear while making another irrelevant keystroke (like space).
I've tried changing to similiar keymaps, like norwegian and finnish, but they all produce the same problem. and i've also tried different platforms to connect from. like putty with windows and the standard ssh-aplication with my laptop running SuSE 8.1
Anyone who can recognize this and perhaps give a hint? thanks!
now i've also tried updating my openssh (there was only one newer version from the one i had) and it made no difference. then i tried to degrade openssh to 3.4 which is the standard of SuSE 8.1 where the character map works fine over ssh. but that made no difference either.
does the vanilla keyboard layout work (ie. ascii only, no remapping)? does pure ascii with remapping work (such as dvorak)? Does it work with other versions of ssh? If all else fails, resort to reading the man page on setxkbmap and ssh
