Question Keyboard language issues

I have Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and recently for some strange reason my keyboard settings are messed up. Even though they are set to UK they are actually still in US mode.

This led to a really fustrating issue where i could not authenticate my password. It is the same in terminal.

Any ideas?

Xfec4 has a similar problem at times so I just run this
Code:
setxkbmap -layout gb &>/dev/null &
At start up.
