Hey guys,

I've read several boards, and I understood that X substitutes its own
key mapping (with less flexibility than the linux base, but still sufficient).

Say, I want to remap aring to AltGr+o and Aring to AltGr+O.
At the moment, it's the O with a stripe through it, which I don't need.

I've read things about the loadkeys, dumpkeys and showkey commands.
In addition, I'd like this mapping to be valid in the command line as much as in
an usual X window. (Is that possible with this X substitution, or should we
remap in 2 places?)

I've read a post in the Slackware Distro forum, but I don't want to rewrite the keymap file, cuz I believe that I can write a simple file in my home folder to substitute again my own keymap.
(If there's substitution once, there can be one more time...)

Could somebody help me to understand what's going on, and possibly a procedure
to follow?

PS : `xmodmap -e "keysym o = o O aring Aring"` runs, but then the AltGr key seems disabled, meaning that not only AltGr+o doesn't output anything, but no other AltGr combinations work.

Actually, sorry, I'm wrong. The other AltGr combinations work.
But the AltGr+o doesn't output anything. (not even the oslash)


When I load the fr keymap, by `loadkeys fr` from a console, but not X, I can access the aring through AltGr+z.

But I'd like to understand what X does !
I mean, I've got a french keyboard, so if it doesn't load the french mapping, what does it do?

Cuz without the `loadkeys fr`, the mapping is different.......

What's going on, and why is that so poorly documented?
I bet I'm not the first one to have that type of problems!
