kernel verification....


i just compiled my kernel last nite, how do i verify im running the new one....obvioulsy i cant use rpm -q kernel because i didnt install it thru an rpm

use the force.

uname -a might give you what you want.

The normal process after a kernel compilation is to copy the new "bzImage" to "/boot and configure and reinstall Lilo and then reboot.

Then you should run the new kernel.

If you have a kernel with a newer version than will also see a new version at the login - if you're not booting to X.

Did you edit your bootloader so that you are running your new kernel? If you didn't, then you are running your old kernel.

# Find running kernel version
uname -r

i followed that guide daone wrote..but it was too distro-specific...doesnt matter anyways im moving to slack anyway...thanks
