kernel source

Is there only one true source for the linux kernel, ( i.e. www.kernel.org) ?

Or do companies like redhat use there own modified kernels?

If the second question is the case, will a kernel from www.kernel.org or another independently maintained kernel work with redhat?

Again, is www.kernel.org the only place where a kernel is maintained and developed?

Thanks,

Robert Liguori

There's only one main kernel tree. RedHat and others gat kernels from here, but they add patches. You can do the same yourself, no problem. Any kernel from kernel.org will work with Redhat (if it's compiled with support of filesystems you have etc).
