Kernel size under 1KB?

After compiling a new kernel (2.4.33), I noticed that the only file i need to boot my system is "bzImage" that was created from the compilation. this file is 776 bytes in size.
Could it be that the kernel's size is less the 1KB? I assume it's not true, so what am I missing here?

That's odd, to say the least :} ...

The smallest 2.4 kernels I've ever seen
were in the > 500K region.

Yeah, I would agree. Most of my kernels now with the basics of what I need are around a meg now with the latest 2.4.23 kernel. A one kilobyte kernel just aint gonna happen unless you compiled maybe just the CPU type into it..

Oh my god! I'm SO sorry!
I checked it again now. the size is 776KB not 776B!
stupid me!
do you hear that sound? That's me banging my head against the wall!

but it's still fairly small for a kernel - I thought it would be like 20-40 MB...

Nuh ... even an uncompressed kernel won't
usually exceed 4MB (unless you decide not
to use modules at all but still enable all features ;}).

Tink
