Kernel preemption error installing Zaptel for Asterisks

Greetings

Help would be appreciated concering the following difficulty:

I have been attempting installation of the cvs distribution of Asterisk.
While attempting to modprobe zaptel I receive the following err:

FATAL: Error inserting zaptel (/lib/modules/2.6.10-5-386/misc/zaptel.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

dmesg reports:

zaptel:Unkown symbol add_preempt_count
zaptel:Unknown symbol sub_preempt_count

Guidence would be appreciated.

Depending on the Kernel you are using the steps to compile zaptel might differ:
2.4 Kernel:

# make clean
# make install

2.6 Kernel:
# make clean
# make26
# make install

In case you use Debian: Debian is known to have problems compiling zaptel. I was not able to compile it neigher from cvs nor from tarball.
