Kernel Panic help

Hi. I'm not new to computers, but I'm very new to Linux. I've been trying to install Mandrake 8.1 repeatedly, with a different amount of success each time. I have a Cyrix II (200), w/ 64mb of RAM. The main problem I have is with my graphics card. It's a SiS 530, and it took me a while to finally get the display right.
However, when I do select the correct display, I get a kernel panic when booting up. This is the exact message:

<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init! e2 03 23 04 95 c0 f6 26 [<c01050000>]

That's when I select xfree86 3.x, which gives me a correct display. But when I select xfree86 4.x, the graphics turn up splotchy, and Linux loads w/out error.

If it helps, I have 2 hard drives, and I'm installing Linux on an empty one. Windows is on the other. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to try out Linux. Thanks in advance!

If your video is integrated onto your motherboard, you may want to think about purcasing a good quality graphics card and disabling the onboard video system. I had an M570 board I was trying to install linux on, it is also made by SiS, and it would suffer from random lockups and freezes ( In Windows and Linux ). Installing a graphics card and disabling onboard video cleared up 99% of my problems. I still use that computer at my small business today. I also know that XFree 3 has experimental 3D support for some cards, that could also be causing some problems. I do not know how to disable it though. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Danny
