Kernel Panic! could not mount root fs. Please help me out.
Hello everybody.
I have this trouble recently. In the past I have encouter it twice. The first is when I tried to recompile kernel. The second time is when my linux install disk refuse to boot. Both twice, I reinstalled my linux. And now, I see that line again. I don't remember what did I do exactly. I have both mandriva and fedora core 4 install on one PC. I use the grub version come with mandriva. I confiured it to boot fedora core 4. Recently I open the mandrake control center software and check some options which allow me to boot with graphical interface. When I restart, what have this silly software done?. I see a black and white screen instead of my all slpash image. Both two distro refuse to boot. I remove a strange argument in the mandriva boot command and it boot. But Fedora core 4 doesn't. It give me a deadly messages. "Kernel panic! Could not mount root files system at (104,3)." I don't know what was that line mean. The fc4 boot command in grub.conf file was: root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-...(the version)..FC4 ro root=/dev/hda1 rhgb quiet. initrd /boot/initrd-...(the version)...FC4.img Please, help me. |
I have reinstalled FC4. Again, reinstall fix my problem.
I think the cause of the prblem was an kernel change or initrd change. Do you think so. |
