Kernel oops on boot
 

Howdy,
I just installed Debian on my system, and can boot fine using the kernel from the rescue disk. I tried recompiling my kernel using kernel-package and kernel-source-2.2.22, following the instructions found at http://www.debian.org/releases/stabl...nstall.en.html .
When I try to boot using the new kernel, it does not take long to fall over on its side. Here's where things start to fall apart:

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

i have no clue what your problem is exactly. i can advise you to recheck the kernel configs. you seem to have missed something out, that is (obviously) vital to your system. look for process accounting options, swap stuff and so. give it a try again
