kernel compile on x86_64 fails

hi all,

please help me out on this... i just installed a x86_64 distro (slamd64) and... well i don't get it. i build my kernel as usual and i get loads of errors on the make modules instruction (it fails compiling.

than, of course, i just cannot run make modules_install.

is there something particular i should know / do? how can i actually compile a kernel in x86_64? is this automatically detected?

i'm sure i'm missing something here... i got on error such as

INSTALL arch/x86_64/kernel/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko

any help would be seriously appreciated. never had problems compiling under slackware 10.1.

thanks...

aj.

actually i've recomipled and this is the error im' getting:

Code:
make[3]: *** [drivers/char/rio/rio_linux.o] Error 1
make[2]: *** [drivers/char/rio] Error 2
make[1]: *** [drivers/char] Error 2
above, a message stating that this driver is for 32-bit platofmrs only.

now, where the heck is this driver? i want to disable it but can't find it in the menuconfig dialogues...
