Kernel compile on Suse 8.1 professional errors out.

hi.
i am compiling a linux-2.4.19.SuSE kernel on SUSE 8.1 machine.
Had kept the default configuration.
make clean, mrproper, dep were successful.
But 'make bzImage' errors out with the following error messages:-

**************
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.4.19.SuSE/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -Wno-trigraphs -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=i586 -DKBUILD_BASENAME=semaphore -c -o semaphore.o semaphore.c
semaphore.c:329:1: missing terminating " character
semaphore.c:354:1: missing terminating " character
make[1]: *** [semaphore.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.19.SuSE/arch/i386/kernel'
make: *** [_dir_arch/i386/kernel] Error 2
*****************

Due to this 'make modules modules_install ' also fails out.
Help reruired.

/Puneet
