kernel 2.6.8-2-k7 and webcam spca5xx driver

Next time, it's a bit more polite to add another post explaining what you were doing, and why it seemed like a silly question, including whether you got it going or not. Otherwise, people with a similar problem will be unable to learn from the issues you were encountering.

Duelly noted. Thanks for telling.

Just so everyone knows :

I was asking , among other things, if it was safe to use kernels not in Debian's repository.... Which it of course is. As you might figure, my experience with linux so far is not with compiling kernels..

I would also be very glad if someone could answer this :

I succesfully compiled kernel 2.6.14.2 as a debian package and installed it. I get kernel panic during boot. In /boot, my default kernel has a initrd-rd-image and the new one don't... any idea ? I followed a howto on www.falkotimme.org.

Replying to this myself, someone might benefit from this :

istalled yaird, a newer program for making boot images (apt-get install yaird)

now it all works !
