kernel 2.6.10 - compile problems

greetings,

i know this question might be repetative, but i cant find any.

i try to upgrade from 2.4.22-1.2199 to 2.6.10 on fedora core 1.

probs:

1) there is no Linux folder is /usr/src, only redhat folder.
2) there is no config-2.4.22-1.2199 (or something similar) in /boot. but there are
config-2.4.22-1.2199.nptl
3) make menuconfig or make xconfig error: make: *** No rule to make target 'xconfig'. Stop

can anyone tell why is that? am I missing something ?

thanks.

can you give the exact commandline used and any more information? any 2.6 kernel should have xconfig/menuconfig. You can try downloading the source straight from kernel.org as that won't be tampered with.

There is probably no /usr/src/linux directory because the kernel sources aren't installed & the xconfig/makeconfig command problem will be for the same reason. In redhat 9 I believe you need qt-devel to use xconfig also. This is my best guess because I haven't recompiled my kernel in a while since my box is doing almost all I want it to.
