KDM Theme Manager?

Did a fresh install of Debian 'Sarge' with 2.6.11-1-k7 kernel and KDE 3.4.

Maybe I installed certain programs incorrectly because in order for me to start KDE 3.4 I have to type in 'xdm' to start the GUI, which I thought I was suppose to use 'kdm' to start?

This is how I install:

- Debian 'Sarge' with 2.6 kernel
- Upgrade kernel to 2.6.11-1-k7
- x-window-system
- kdebase kdelibs
- msttcorefonts

How do I start KDE 3.4 automatically and I would like to use the KDM Theme Manager so I can change the login theme?

apt-get install kdm

and then select 'kdm' as the default login manager in the menu that comes up during the configuration.
