kdm: IO Error in XOpenDisplay

Hi,

Something *really* weird is going on here.

When I boot up, everything works normal, and I come into my desktop.

But when I log out, I get to tty1 and stay there. X doesn't come back !

and when I try to stop or restart KDM, I get an error (while stopping KDM)

I found the following in the logs:

Code:
Jun 26 11:00:35 linux kdm: :0[7277]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay
Jun 26 11:00:35 linux kdm[7000]: Display :0 cannot be opened
Jun 26 11:00:35 linux kdm[7000]: Unable to fire up local display :0; disabling.
When I use CTL-ALT-BACKSPACE, X normaly restart (and I see KDM). What am I doing wrong?

I use Gentoo Linux, with the ATI closed source drivers (fglrx loaded on bootup)

Could anybody help? Thanks.

I ment here, when I logged out. When I restart KDm when everything is still working, it acts normal.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I am experiencing the same issue right now.

I guess I did solve this, but since it was 7 (!) years ago, I can't really remember what I did. It probably has something to do with using closed source drivers. Maybe it helps when you don't start up in frame-buffer mode? I'm sorry but don't have any more info atm.
